OBS WebSocket setup guide

Connect to OBS, then add Live Entrance effects

Updated 2026-10-23 · Stable app 0.1.35

Before you start

  • OBS Studio 28 or later includes WebSocket. You do not need an older standalone plugin for these versions.
  • Run OBS and Live Entrance on the same Windows PC. Automatic detection uses the current Windows user's normal OBS installation; use manual settings for portable OBS or failed detection.
  • Set this up before going live and keep both apps open. Keep the OBS password and connection-information window out of public screenshots and your stream.

You can read on a phone; configure the apps on your streaming PC. Open links in Chrome or Edge, not the WeChat in-app browser.

Two connections, two purposes

4455 is the default OBS WebSocket port; use the port actually configured in OBS. 17891 serves the effects player.

STEP 01

Open WebSocket settings in OBS

Open OBS and choose Tools → WebSocket Server Settings from its top menu.

If this menu item is missing, check your OBS version. This guide uses the WebSocket 5 server built into OBS 28 and later. Wording can vary by OBS version or language.

ConfirmThe dialog shows Enable WebSocket server, Server Port and authentication settings.
STEP 02

Enable the server and confirm its credentials

Check Enable WebSocket server. Normally keep Server Port at 4455. If you already use a different port, note it: both apps must use the same value.

Keep Enable Authentication checked and use the server password generated by OBS. Use Show Connect Info when you need to view or copy it.

Click Apply, then OK to close the settings. The WebSocket password is separate from your Live Entrance license code.

ConfirmThe server is enabled and its settings are applied; you know the current port and matching password.
STEP 03

Try automatic detection in Live Entrance

In the Live Entrance desktop app, expand OBS automation connection below the top connection area.

Set Connection method to Read local OBS automatically. The app reads the local OBS port and password. If you changed the mode, click Save connection settings first.

The app connects to 127.0.0.1 on this PC. It has no separate host/IP address field.

ConfirmRead local OBS automatically is selected. If there are no unsaved changes, go to step 5 to test.
STEP 04

If detection fails, enter matching settings manually

Change Connection method to Set password manually. Set WebSocket port to the number shown in OBS, such as 4455, and paste the OBS server password into WebSocket password.

Click Save connection settings. If the field says Manual password saved; leave blank to keep, leaving it blank retains the old password. Paste a new value when changing it.

You can also use Generate password → Copy password in Live Entrance. You must paste that password into OBS and apply it there, then save the Live Entrance settings. Generating a password does not update OBS automatically.

ConfirmBoth apps have saved the same port and password.
STEP 05

Use Test connection to confirm success

Keep OBS open and click Test connection in Live Entrance. A successful result says Connected to OBS. and shows the OBS version.

If the button is unavailable, save any pending changes first. For a failed test, use the troubleshooting section below and try again.

The test checks the control connection and version. It does not start streaming or add a source, and closes its test connection when finished. The separate Live source connected indicator describes the overlay connection; it does not prove this WebSocket test succeeded.

ConfirmThe Test connection result says Connected to OBS.
STEP 06

Add the effect source and check the canvas

In OBS, select the scene you will actually output. In Studio Mode, check the right-hand Program scene, not only the left-hand Preview. Under Settings → Video, check Base (Canvas) Resolution: portrait commonly uses width 1080 and height 1920; landscape commonly uses width 1920 and height 1080.

Click Add to OBS in Live Entrance. The app creates or updates the browser source named 直播進場特效 - 獨立中文版 using the OBS base canvas size. Keep it visible and above the camera layer.

If adding a browser source manually, copy a URL from Live browser source in the app. The default example is below. Do not put WebSocket port 4455 into the browser source: the two ports serve different purposes.

http://127.0.0.1:17891/overlay/screen-1#tiktok.studio
Enlarge screenshot · Genuine stable-app interface with documentation demo data. Use the source URL provided by the app. Keep port 17891, /overlay/screen-1 and #tiktok.studio in the local IP URL.
ConfirmThe effect browser source is in the correct scene, fits the canvas and is not hidden behind the camera.
STEP 07

Enable audio monitoring when needed

Check that the effect source in the OBS Audio Mixer is unmuted and at a suitable volume. To hear the effects locally and send them to output, enable Keep OBS effect audio on “Monitor and Output” at the top of Live Entrance.

This option is off by default. Enabling it saves immediately and checks this app's effect source every 5 seconds. Keep the default source name and this app's source URL; it waits and retries if the source has not been created yet.

Turning it off stops automatic maintenance without restoring the existing OBS audio mode. Use headphones and a short recording to check that desktop audio and source audio are not being captured twice.

Enlarge screenshot · Stable-app interface demo: enable Keep OBS effect audio on Monitor and Output. This state comes from an isolated test; record and check real output after setup.
ConfirmWhen monitoring is needed, the effect source is set to Monitor and Output in Advanced Audio Properties and your test recording sounds correct.
STEP 08

Test the effects, then connect the chat

Use Preview animation to check the animation, then Test entrance to check configured viewers, banners and welcome speech. A transparent source while no effect is playing is normal.

If the source already exists but did not refresh after an update, click Repair OBS, then test again. This button also requires the WebSocket connection.

Once the broadcaster is actually live, enter the actual TikTok account and click Connect to chat. The OBS control connection, the effect browser source and the chat connection must each be checked.

ConfirmOBS shows the animation, the recording has sound, and chat is connected to the correct streaming account.

Troubleshooting

Server disabled or could not reach OBS

Make sure OBS is running. Enable the server under Tools → WebSocket Server Settings and apply the change. Check that the manual port in Live Entrance matches OBS; do not use the overlay's 17891 port here.

Password mismatch or authentication failed

Copy the current password from OBS again. Switch to Set password manually, paste it, save and retest. If you generated a password in Live Entrance, also paste it into OBS and apply it there. Saving only one side is insufficient.

Portable OBS, another Windows account or incorrect automatic settings

Use Set password manually with the port and password of the OBS instance you are running. The host remains 127.0.0.1 on this PC; this panel does not support connecting to another computer.

The saved password cannot be read

Re-enter and save the OBS password while signed into your current Windows account, or switch back to automatic detection. If the settings panel cannot load, use Restore automatic settings and test again.

Connected successfully, but no animation or sound

WebSocket success only confirms that the app can control OBS. Check that the correct browser source exists, its URL and canvas size are correct, and it is visible and unmuted. Run Preview animation and Test entrance; check step 7 if local monitoring is needed.

A source-name conflict prevents audio maintenance

Check that 直播進場特效 - 獨立中文版 is this app's browser source with its correct URL. If unrelated content uses that name, give that content a different name before using Add to OBS to create this app's source.

Do I need router port forwarding or administrator mode for everything?

This app connects through 127.0.0.1 on the same PC, so this workflow does not need router port forwarding or public access. Check the server, port and password first. Do not replace troubleshooting with disabling authentication or the entire firewall.
